Each worn object whispers the tale of this city’s rust. “Pasar karat” in Malay, translates literally to “rust market,” expressing the flea market’s essence. Miniature artist NOvia tells the story of her upbringing in Ipoh, Malaysia using her favorite treasure hunting ground. The book’s first section carves a path into the market with detailed laser engravings, authentically portraying everyone and everything. The second part transforms old photos and documents by adding graffiti, becoming, in the process, an “alternative history textbook.”
